PROPANE TANK SIZING GUIDE
KNOW BURN TIME AND TANK PERFORMANCE
WHY TANKS FREEZE OVER
Propane is stored as a liquid in the tank, and needs heat to turn into gass. As you draw gas quickly (as is the case when running a high-BTU burner), the liquid evaporates rapidly, drawing heat from the tank and causing its temperature to quickly drop. A small tank with limited surface area can’t absorb enough ambient heat, and instead draws heat from its internal liquid propane. The tank becomes extremely cold, sometimes frosting on the outside. When this happens, the size of your flame will be significantly decreased until the tank’s temperature rises back to normal levels.

Recommendation
Important: At higher BTU levels, the tank may freeze before you’ve used all the fuel. This does not mean the thank is empty or running low, but rather that the temperature of the tank is too cold to operate
